Will Fidotron change my Live Sets?
No. Fidotron never edits a Live Set it didn't create. Forks, duplicates and restored versions are new files, made as copies. Before opening a set in Live, Fidotron copies it into .fido so you can go back, but it never writes to the set itself.
What is the .fido folder in my project?
It holds Fidotron's records: which set came from which, statuses, sealed copies, a copy of the last-opened set from before it was opened, export links and mix notes. Keep it with the project, including when you copy or back it up. Delete it and Fidotron forgets the project's history, but your sets and audio are untouched.
What does "sealed" mean? When you fork a set, its parent is sealed, so every fork starts from a version you can trust. You can still open a sealed set. If you save over it, Fidotron shows the seal as broken, lists what changed, and offers Restore Sealed Version, which brings the sealed version back as a new set. The set you saved over isn't lost: it becomes an unsealed child of the restored version.
I saved over a set in Live by mistake. Can I go back? If you opened it from Fidotron, yes. Fidotron keeps a copy of the set you last opened from it, as it was just before that open. Select the set and choose Restore As It Was When Opened: the earlier version comes back as a new set in its place, and the set you saved becomes its fork, so nothing is lost. Only the last open is kept, and sets opened from Finder or Live's recent list aren't covered. Live's own backups in the project's Backup folder are there too.
A set I renamed in Finder. Did it lose its history? No. Renamed sets keep their place in the tree, their forks and their status.
Why doesn't my set show up? Fidotron shows the .als files directly in the project folder. Sets in subfolders, such as Live's Backup folder, are ignored. Sets that can't be read are counted at the bottom of the window.
How do exports get linked to a set?
Bounce into the project's Exports/Automatically Add to Fido folder and the file is linked to the set you last opened from Fidotron. You can also drag any audio file under Exports onto a set, and use Remove Link to take it off again. Once linked, a file can be renamed or moved anywhere under Exports, including subfolders, and it stays with its set. If you delete a set, its exports stay in the tree, marked "now gone", with their notes, ready to drag onto another set.
Which Live version opens my set? The oldest installed Live that can open it, so the set isn't upgraded by accident. If opening it would upgrade the set to a newer major version, Fidotron asks first. Other installed versions are offered too.
Where are mix notes kept?
With the export, in the project's .fido folder. They travel with the project.
Does Fidotron need the internet or an account? No. It has no network access at all. See the privacy policy.
Where's the user guide? In the app, choose Help > Fidotron User Guide (⌘?), or read it here.
